Weed
The City of Weed is named after pioneer Abner Weed, who in 1897 bought the Siskiyou Lumber and Mercantile Mill and 280 acres of land in what is now the City of Weed. By the 1940s Weed boasted the world’s largest sawmill. Roseburg Lumber still operates in the historic lumber town, but many original mill buildings have been removed since the demise of “the company town” and the incorporation of Weed. Now the College of the Siskiyous, with its 250-acre campus and Weeds natural environment of mountains, forests, lakes, and streams, draw both tourists and students. Located just outside of the City Weed, Edgewood, Carrick, and Lake Shastina are several of the unincorporated communities that share the Weed USPS ZIPcode.
